Match Play - Rule of Golf - Issue 2

In this article we will talk about rule number two of the Rules of Golf book.

Reglas de Golf - Match Play - #2

The rules of golf (R & A) in the second rule determine the game mode called "match play, which in summary is a round of golf heads-up, one against one, and wins the hole the player or side that few shots make playing the hole. The player who wins the most holes during the stipulated round of golf, wins the game. On termination of the 18th hole tied, players must continue playing until the game set in the hole 19, 20, 21, and respectively.

I would like to stress once again that the Rules of Golf are clear like water defining this type of game and many of the customs that you have to play or the very way of playing, come from this rule number two, the rule book says :

Match Play

General 2-1

A match consists of one side playing against another during a stipulated round, unless the Committee provides otherwise.

In match play the game is played by holes.

Unless the rules so provide otherwise, a hole is won by the side which holed his ball in the fewest strokes. In a handicap match, the lowest net score wins the hole.

The state party is expressed by the words: so many "holes up" or "equal", and many holes "to play."

One side is "dormie" when many holes up as the missing play.

Tied 2-2 Hole

A hole is tied if each side pocketed on the same number of strokes.

When a player has holed out and his hand he is a blow for the tie, then the player incurs a penalty, the hole is tied.

Winner of Match 2-3

A match is won when one side has a number of holes greater advantage to remaining to play.

If there is a tie, the Committee may extend the stipulated round by as many holes as needed for a match has a winner.

Hit Near Grant 2-4, Hole or Match

A player may concede a match at any time before beginning or end of that match.

A player may concede a hole at any time before beginning or end of that pit.

A player may concede the opposite the next stroke at any time, provided the opponent's ball is stationary. It is considered that the opponent has holed out with his next shot and the ball can be removed by either side.

A concession may not be refused or revoked.

2-5 Doubts as to Procedure; Disputes and Claims

In match play if a doubt or dispute arises between players, a player may raise a claim. If a duly authorized representative of this Committee is not made within a reasonable time, players must continue the match without delay.

The Committee may consider a claim only if the player puts it notifies his opponent (i) which is posing a claim, (ii) on the events and (iii) who wants a ruling. The claim must be raised before any player of the match plays from the next exit site or in the case of the last hole of the match, before all players of the match is withdrawn from the putting green.

A subsequent claim may not be considered by the Committee unless the same is based on facts previously unknown to the player who raises the claim and an opponent that he has given wrong information (Rules 6-2a and 9).

Once the outcome of the match has been officially announced, the Committee can not consider a subsequent claim unless it is satisfied that the opponent knew he was giving wrong information.

2-6 General Penalty

In match play the penalty for violation of a rule is loss of hole except that it is prepared differently.

Interestingly, the wisdom of the regulation of this game mode, in the sense in which it is challenging and fun to play a Match Play in Golf. Note also important to note that in this game in almost all cases if it commits a breach of the rules the penalty is loss of hole directly.

A habit that I find in the rules is that the loser of the match, have to enter in the schedule of play or the outcome of results in Match Play, and how serious note:

- The number of holes won more holes to play, eg two holes up with a play, and write and 2 / 1.

- It is true that too many people can write "2 UP", the word in English above, two holes up.

Under this mode of play is very important to the departure times of the players in the Match Play the presence of the players on the tee must be strictly punctual, under penalty of loss of the match by Walk Over (WO), is of the English word "Quit", meaning "leave" in Castilian.
